Services

Neuro-Rehabilitation is definitely not a case of one size fits all. We will work together with each and every individual as well as their support networks/carers and tailor-make a therapy programme that best meets their needs or works towards achieving their goals. We also offer one off assessments and reports if required.

Neurological Occupational Therapy Assessment

An integral part of the Occupational Therapy process is information gathering. The aim of the initial assessment is to determine what difficulties the individual is experiencing and how they impact on their daily functioning. We review a client’s current ability of transfers, activities of daily living such as personal care tasks, domestic tasks, community access and work/leisure activities. A neurological upper limb assessment and cognitive and communication screening is also completed to further determine which assessments and interventions are required.

Postural Management & Seating Assessments

Postural management assessment refers to all seating (including armchairs, shower chairs, wheelchairs) and lying surfaces (such as beds and mattresses). The aim of the assessment will be to determine the individuals’ postural needs around the clock, identifying what equipment or aids may be required to support the individual, reviewing  pressure relieving qualities and strategies may be required to maintain their skin integrity and most of all determine how an individual could be made more comfortable. If required, a report detailing the findings of the assessment, details of the analysis of how poor postural management/seating is impacting on an individual’s ability to engage in activities of daily living and recommendations can be completed.

Fatigue Management

Fatigue is a common symptom of many neurological conditions. We can work together with individuals to assist them with managing their energy effectively to participate in the tasks/activities that they want and chose to do. Fatigue management programmes typically include education on the types of fatigue, identifying triggers and patterns, learning how to pace and grade activities, sleep hygiene and routine planning. Where an individual is able to self-manage their fatigue, the overall goal is to enable them to manage this independently including relapses. Where a client is unable to self-manage their fatigue, we work closely with the individual’s support network to provide guide and support on how best to support that individual to manage their fatigue.

Cognitive & Perceptual Rehabilitation

Assessment and rehabilitation of cognitive and perceptual difficulties which can be offered through standardised testing as well as through function. Functional assessments will review how an individual utilises and integrates their thinking and processing skills to accomplish everyday activities. We work with individuals and their support network to develop bespoke intervention plans to address cognitive and/or perceptual difficulties within their rehabilitation programme. Interventions can include cognitive training to improve symptoms as well as practising the use of strategies to manage the symptoms. Key areas of cognitive and perceptual rehabilitation involve attention retraining, visual processing, information processing, memory, object use, insight raising and executive functioning. We are also able to assist with any rehabilitation regarding a change in an individual’s behaviour/personality due to their condition/injuries.

Upper Limb Rehabilitation and Splinting

We offer detailed neurological upper limb assessments of strength, dexterity, range of movement, sensation, proprioception, tremor, spasticity and functional upper limb use/patterns.  Following an assessment, we can devise a bespoke rehabilitation programme which may be for individual's to self manage, complete within therapy or to train carers to complete the programme with them. We offer a range of treatment options to facilitate recovery beyond a standard programme such as pre-fabricated and bespoke splinting and casting, functional electrical stimulation, constraint induced movement therapy and recommendations for bespoke equipment that may increase independence, quality of life and/or autonomy.

Vocational Rehabilitation

For many individuals, work provides purpose and gives structure to the day. As every individual with a neurological condition is different, vocational rehabilitation can include a range of interventions. We have experience in assessing individual’s potential to return to existing jobs and/or new employment as well as identifying voluntary work for individuals which may be a stepping stone to employment or a longer-term option for them. Vocational rehabilitation can help individuals identify the skills they require within their work role and design a programme to address any barriers that may prevent you returning to work.
